A Quick Checklist for CTL Undercarriage Maintenance
Compact Track Loaders (CTL’s) are a powerful machine that can be used in a wide variety of applications. With the undercarriage of the machine representing a significant proportion of operating and repair costs, ensuring regular maintenance can save a lot of money in repairs and downtime.
Here is a quick checklist to help you keep you CTL running efficiently;
CTL Final Drive
Checking your Final Drive Gearbox oil levels are vital, topping up as necessary. We recommend you change the oil every 250-500 hours, or at least once a year depending on usage – see Final Drive Servicing for more info. Inspect the final drive and sprocket daily for oil leaks and ensure all bolts are present and tight.
CTL Undercarriage
Cleaning is key. Although it may seem time consuming, taking extra care to clean your CTL undercarriage serves many benefits. Clearing debris off regularly will prevent it from freezing or drying on. This will make visual inspections of the machine much easier and minimises your fuel consumption as a build-up can increase the weight of the machine. Abrasive materials like gravel or clay can do the most damage to key components. Keep an eye on the idlers, rollers, and sprockets too, and replace when they start to show signs of excessive wear. This will prevent unnecessary wear to other parts of your undercarriage.
CTL Tracks
Avoid excessive wear by checking and adjusting the track tension if necessary – do not run the tracks too tight. (Refer to the manufacturers maintenance manual for proper tensions). Take the time to regularly clean out debris from around the tracks. Remember contamination causes 90% of all hydraulic failures and most tracking problems.
